About M60 Select Bus Service, and how it changes and improves your ride
Select Bus Service is the
brand name for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in New York City. BRT is a general term for any high-performance surface transportation
system that incorporates features of rail transit combined with the flexibility and cost advantages of bus transit.
Select Bus Service on the M60 introduces innovative changes to the way buses operate:
- You pay BEFORE boarding
- You can board the bus using any door
- Dedicated
bus lanes along 125 St speed service between stops
- Fewer bus stops means quicker trips
- Increased enforcement
against traffic offenders allows buses to keep moving.
- All these elements will make your trip up to 15% to 20% faster.
Bus
stop signs and shelters clearly mark Select Bus Service stops.

Two ways to Pay your Fare Before you Board
You pay your fare at the stop at either the MetroCard Fare Collector or Coin Fare Collector machine BEFORE
boarding.
Keep your receipt for the duration of your trip. Fare inspectors randomly check for them.
Anyone who cannot produce a valid receipt could be subject to a substantial fine.
You don’t give or show
your receipt to the bus operator UNLESS you paid with coins and need a transfer. Please board at the front of the bus if you
need a transfer.

MetroCard Fare Collector
Pay here with:
MetroCard (Value or Time), Reduced-Fare MetroCard, transfers, single-ride
tickets, and Student MetroCard (but NOT Half-Fare Student MetroCard).
1. Press the start button.
2. Insert your MetroCard, transfer or ticket face up into the slot.
3. Your
receipt will be issued automatically.
Paying for more than one person: Only a value-based
MetroCard can be used to pay the fare for more than one person. Insert the MetroCard into the machine up to four times for
a maximum of four people, and SBS paper tickets will be issued for each person.
Transferring
to the M15 SBS: You must obtain a new ticket before you board. At the M15 SBS bus stop, insert the same
MetroCard you used to pay for your previous trip and a new ticket will be issued. Multiple tickets will be issued if
a value-based MetroCard was used to pay for more than one person.
